Historic Columbia Foundation to Observe Flag Day on June 13

Family Day Activities Provide History, Celebration, and Military Appreciation

Historic Columbia Foundation invites families to an early celebration observing Flag Day on Saturday, June 13 during Family Day. The program will be held from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Robert Mills Carriage House, 1616 Blanding Street.

Activities of the day include preparing care packages and pocket flags for soldiers overseas, hands-on crafts, and coloring activities. Participants will also learn about the history of the American flag along with Columbia’s connection to President Woodrow Wilson and his role in Flag Day. Special presentations include a demonstration and flag disposal ceremony performed by Boy Scout troops of the Indian Waters Council. The day will conclude with a Woodrow Wilson neighborhood walking tour.

Families are encouraged to bring their own flags for demonstrations and displays, or bring in old flags for proper disposal. Care package donations are also encouraged which include:

· Individual alcohol wipes
· Fabric softener sheets
· Travel size (or larger) shampoo/ conditioner/ lotion, shaving cream
· Sealed lip balm
· Powdered drink mixes (Gatorade, single serve packets, etc.)
· Beef Jerky
· Energy bars
· Trail Mix/ nuts
· Hard candy
